Bacon paintings.

I have a huge love of the work of Francis Bacon. One of my favourite stories of the artist who was often fiery, especially to his closest asked a friend to destroy one of two paintings at his studio.

‘The one on the left’.

Barry Joule states that he did exactly that. He later received a furious phone call from Bacon stating (among many swear words) that he had burned the wrong one.

“My left is on the left as you stand facing them.” he stated.

Of course it is!

Joule continues to state that their friendship suffered as a result, but was rekindled.

I think the main moral of the story is Barry Joule is a patient man. But also that left is right, and right is left .
